Proactive weekly mining round-up: Tesla, BHP, Greatland Gold…

The world’s richest man and the world’s largest mining company are teaming up. BHP Group PLC (LSE:BHP) (LSE:BHP) has announced that it will supply nickel to Elon Musk’s Tesla Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) (NASDAQ:TSLA), which it describes as “one of the world’s leading sustainable energy companies.”


BHP Group PLC (LSE:BHP) (LON:BHP) meanwhile reported production records at its Western Australia Iron Ore operations and the Goonyella Riverside metallurgical coal mine in Queensland. In an operational update for the year to end June, the miner also announced that Olympic Dam achieved the highest annual copper production since the acquisition by BHP in 2005 and the highest gold production ever for the operation.


Greatland Gold PLC (AIM:GGP) (LON:GGP) said new drilling results continue to support the potential for resource expansion of the Havieron gold-copper project in Western Australia. Newcrest Mining Ltd (ASX:NCM), its joint venture partner in the project, has completed a total of 184,081 metres of drilling from 212 holes so far. Seven new drill holes, previously unreported, have all intersected significant mineralisation.




AfriTin Mining Ltd (AIM:ATM, FRA:9IA) (AIM:ATM, FRA:9IA) recorded a significant increase in revenue in the year to end February as the company developed its flagship Uis tin mine in Namibia. Revenue surged to GBP5.0mln, from around GBP69,000 the previous year, as AfriTin transitioned from a developing company into a producer.


Rio Tinto PLC (LSE:RIO) (LON:RIO) said it has reached an agreement with local community members to identify and assess the impacts of the former Panguna copper mine in Bougainville, Papua New Guinea, which ceased operating in 1989 after a civil war broke out.

Bushveld Minerals Limited (LON:BMN) confirmed higher production and sales volumes in the second quarter ending June 30. Production amounted to 886 metric tonnes (mtV) of vanadium, up from 688 mtV in the preceding quarter,


Ariana Resources PLC (AIM:AAU, FRA:4A6) (LON:AAU) said the resources estimate for the Kepez North area of the Kiziltepe gold-silver mine in western Turkey has doubled. The Kepez North resource is now estimated to contain about 36,400 ounces of gold and 329,400 ounces of silver.


ECR Minerals PLC (AIM:ECR, FRA:IZGH)’s (LON:ECR) drilling at Creswick in the Victoria Goldfields, Australia has identified more gold mineralisation along the strike zone in a southerly direction from the first hole.


Kavango Resources PLC (LSE:KAV) (LON:KAV) said drilling has started on Target A2 in the northern (Hukuntsi) section of the Kalahari Suture Zone (KSZ) in Botswana. The exploration company has said that the KSZ licences display geology similar to that hosting world-class magmatic sulphide deposits.


Landore Resources Ltd (AIM:LND) (LON:LND) has intersected high-grade gold around a previously announced bonanza grade area on the BAM deposit, Junior Lake Property in Ontario, Canada. Five holes have been drilled to test the zone around the bonanza 432.0 grammes a tonne (g/t) gold intercept reported in April.


Tirupati Graphite PLC (LSE:TGR) (LSE:TGR) said it commissioned Stage 1 of the Tirupati graphene and mintech research centre (TGMRC) in India. This marks the start of revenue generation at TGMRC and allows the company to advance commercialisation engagements.


Metal Tiger PLC (AIM:MTR) (LON:MTR, ASX:MTR) has invested in Anacortes Mining Corp, a new growth orientated gold company in the Americas. The natural resources investor said it bought a stake in First Light Capital Corp for about C$500,000 (GBP288,000) as part of a capital raise by First Light of C$22.0mln.


The Hellyer mine in Tasmania, 100%-owned by NQ Minerals PLC (AQSE:NQMI, OTCQB:NQMLF) (LON:NQMI)(AQSE:NQMI), generated revenue of A$19.8mln from production of base and precious metals during the second quarter to June 2021.


Shanta Gold Ltd (LON:SHG) reduced its production guidance for this year due to weaker output in the second quarter and a revised operating plan, although it said it remained on track to become a mid-tier gold producer in Africa.
