Helium One Global has identified a globally unique, large-scale, high-grade, primary helium project in Tanzania. It has the potential to become a strategic asset in resolving a supply-constrained market.

Helium One’s assets are located within the rift basins on the margin of the Tanzanian Craton.

Through Helium One’s subsidiary companies Gogota (Tz) Limited, Stahamili (Tz) Limited and Njozi (Tz) Limited, the company has secured 18 Prospecting Licences covering more than 4,512 km2 in three distinct project areas: the Rukwa, Balangida and Eyasi projects. These are located near surface seeps with helium concentrations ranging up to 10.5% He by volume.

() has begun drilling the Tai-2 exploration well at the Rukwa Project in Tanzania.

It comes quickly after the Tai-1 well, which proved a working helium system, encountered helium gas shows but could not be definitively tested due to problem well conditions.

Tai-2 is targeting the same prospects that were identified in the preceding well. The new well is located some 20 metres from Tai-1, using the same drill pad which reduces costs and timelines.

“We are delighted to have started drilling activity at Tai-2, testing shallower targets that were not fully evaluated in Tai-1,” said chief executive David Minchin. “We are excited to continue with our 2021 exploration campaign.”

With ()’s rapid spudding of the Tai-2 well the explorer is not jumping to Plan B, it’s repeating Plan A.

Helium One shares rallied 25% in Thursday’s early deals after the company began drilling Tai-2 just over a week since the non-result of Tai-1 disappointed the firm’s retail investor base that has bought up the shares strongly in the months following its AIM market float in December.

Stockbroker SP Angel described the latest results from ‘s () Tai-1 well in Tanzania.

Helium One, in a statement on Monday, reported its latest notable helium gas show in the well above its primary target zone. Shows were seen from a depth of 552 metres to 561 metres and helium gas was observed visually at surface as bubbles in drilling mud.

“With further drilling still to take place at Tai-1, these are early days in the company’s drilling campaign. Early helium/gas shows are encouraging but obviously not conclusive at this stage,” analyst Sam Wahab said in a note.

() () () David Minchin joins Proactive’s Katie Pilbeam after completing the drilling of its first well, Tai-1A, at the Rukwa helium project in Tanzania.

Minchin says these results are a ‘mixed bag’ and talks through all of the details, with helium shows in a total of five intervals of the Karoo formation including all three pre-drill targets.

Due to poor and deteriorating hole conditions, including large washouts across much of the Karoo, Minchin explains why they were not able to run wireline tools downhole beyond 882m and have subsequently not been able to log the main Karoo Formation.
